A balanced journey that blends Tanzania’s best wildlife with meaningful cultural time. See elephants among Tarangire’s baobabs, big cats on Serengeti’s plains, and the Big Five inside the Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way meet the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers and Datoga artisans at Lake Eyasi, explore Mto wa Mbu by tuk-tuk or bike, visit a Maasai community, and hike the Empakaai Crater rim with a local guide. Comfortable lodges and a private 4×4 keep the pace smooth for all ages.
Itinerary (Day by Day)
Day 1: Arrive Arusha
Meet at JRO/Arusha and transfer to your lodge. Trip briefing and time to relax after the flight.
Overnight in Arusha.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire (about 2.5–3 hrs). Game drives among ancient baobabs and large elephant herds; look for lions, giraffe, zebra, and prolific birdlife.
Overnight in Tarangire area.
Day 3: Lake Manyara & Mto wa Mbu → Karatu
Short drive to Lake Manyara for a morning game drive (flamingos seasonal, tree-climbing lions possible). Afternoon Mto wa Mbu village tour by tuk-tuk or bike—fruit markets, rice fields, banana beer tasting. Continue to Karatu.
Overnight in Karatu.
Day 4: Lake Eyasi – Hadzabe & Datoga
Pre-dawn drive to Lake Eyasi. Join a respectful, community-approved visit with the Hadzabe for a morning forage/hunt walk, then meet Datoga blacksmiths who melt and shape metal using traditional bellows. Return to Karatu by late afternoon.
Overnight in Karatu.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Tour
Early descent to the Ngorongoro Crater for classic Big Five viewing and a scenic picnic by the hippo pool. Ascend mid-afternoon; relaxed evening in the highlands.
Overnight on the crater rim or in Karatu.
Day 7: Full Day Serengeti – Big Cats & Herds
Unhurried morning and afternoon drives. Track lion prides on kopjes, scan river lines for leopard, and watch cheetah on open grasslands.
Overnight in Central Serengeti.
Day 8: Serengeti Your Way (Optional Balloon)
Optional dawn hot-air balloon (extra cost, weather permitting). Flexible game drives or a relaxed mid-day break at camp before a golden-hour session.
Overnight in Central Serengeti.
Day 9: Serengeti → Olduvai/Gorge Museum → Maasai Community
Morning game drive, then travel towards the highlands. Stop at Olduvai Gorge Museum (time permitting). Late-day, visit a Maasai boma organized through partners who ensure fair fees and minimal disruption.
Overnight in Ngorongoro highlands (rim/Karatu).
Day 10: Empakaai Crater Hike
Day trip to Empakaai Crater (within the Conservation Area). Hike the rim and forested slopes with a local ranger/guide; superb views and flamingos on the crater lake (seasonal).
Overnight in Ngorongoro highlands/Karatu.
Day 11: Highlands → Arusha
Leisurely morning. Optional coffee estate walk or craft market stop, then drive back to Arusha for a restful final night.

Day 12: Departure / Optional Zanzibar
Airport transfer for your flight home or connect to Zanzibar for beach time.
